Thanksgiving - Movie Night

Movie Night: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel times of the year. This John Hughes classic takes Thanksgiving travel to a whole new level of dramatic! This is a much watch for me every Thanksgiving!

For this holiday movie night, I created a charcuterie board filled with a combination of Thanksgiving flavors and road trip snacks seen in the movie. One of the beautiful things about charcuterie boards is you can customize it to match your preferences and make it bigger or smaller based on how many people will be eating.

Here’s what I put on my Thanksgiving Charcuterie Board!

Cranberry Baked Brie

Is it really a Thanksgiving treat without something cranberry?

I used these simple recipes from Joyous Apron for my brie and cranberry sauce. If cranberry isn’t your thing, you could make a baked brie based on any of your favorite holiday pie flavors: apple, pumpkin, or pecan!

Smoky Almonds

These almonds must have been in the glovebox with Neal’s wallet. You could swap out the almonds for a mixture or any other nut you like. If you want a shortcut, scan you grocery store’s nut section for a smokehouse flavored option.

Herbed Goat Cheese

You have to have something herbacious to represent my favorite Thanksgiving side: stuffing. I couldn’t find anything from Oshkonoggin (why has nobody made that a real creamy yet!?). So I went with another Wisconsin creamery, Montchevre, to save myself time. If you want to get really thematic, this goat cheese turkey would be a great alternative!

Turkey

Obviously.

I did some nice rolls of deli turkey, but you could slice a roasted turkey breast or use leftovers from your Thanksgiving dinner if you make this a post-dinner or Black Friday movie night!

Crackers

Something has to get those delicious, soft cheeses to your mouth! Choose a couple of your favorite options to mix things up.

Spotted On Screen

To finish things off, I added some snacks Neal and Del enjoy on their adventure from Wichita to Chicago. Can you spot all of these when you watch the movie?

  • Cracker Jacks
  • Doritos
  • Potato Chips
  • Mini-bar Bottles: Gin, Tequila, Rum, Vodka

Enjoy your Thanksgiving movie night! Just don’t leave the beer on the vibrating bed!
